World's First Compilation of Regenerative Medicine Scaffold Research by Professor Gilson Khang

 

Professor Gilson Khang (Department of Polymer-Nano Science and Technology) has recently released, for the first time in the world, a publication that compiled the recent research results on the 'regenerative medicine scaffold', which is the basis for the growth of tissues that can replace bio-functions. It is garnering great attention from within the academia.

 

With the support of the research funds for journals provided by JBNU, Professor Khang has published, for the first time in the world, the 'Handbook of Intelligent Scaffold for Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine', over 1,000 pages long. The publication is a collection of literature on the production, characteristics and empirical applications of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine scaffolds using stem cells.

 

The collection, which consists of a total of 45 chapters, introduces the scaffold that is an essential element in developing bio organs and tissues using stem cells, by categorizing them into high molecule, metal, and ceramic materials. It also handles new processing and manufacturing methods, as well as theoretical and empirical applications.

 

In particular, the collection contains useful information that can be applied in stem cell applied bio organ research, such as the research results of world renown researchers, and is expected to be a big help to researchers around the world.

 

Professor Khang is currently carrying out research on slow emission medicine delivery systems, utilizing medicine high molecule, generic/bio-similar pharmaceutical medicine, central nerve regeneration utilizing medicine high molecule and stem cells, optic nerve regeneration, and musculoskeletal system bio-organ development. He has also published over 400 papers and applied for over 70 patents.

 

Professor Khang has been elected as the next chairperson of the TERMIS-AP Chapter. He is an editor for globally renown journals in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine fields, such as the 'Journal of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine', 'International Journal of Stem Cell', 'Regenerative Research', 'Therapeutic Delivery', and 'World Journal of Stem Cell', and is the chief editor of the ‘International Journal of Tissue Regeneration’.
